Living Conditions of the "Poor"
In the Article "Living Conditions" by Ankur Poddar and the You Tube video on living conditions it tells us why people moved to the cities and what conditions they lived in and then how it changed. Before the Industrial Revolution people lived and worked on farms as whole families contributed to putting in work to keep their farm clean. But as Industrial discoveries expanded people began to move to the Northeast because people needed jobs which forced people in the "slums" due to a lack of money. Families couldn't depend on their fathers to raise money so all the family members were forced to work including children and mothers. Which then lead to poverty forcing people to move into the cities. At home wasn't much better then working in the factories "Five to nine people lived in a single room which was as big as an apartment. Not only was there not enough room, but more people got sick as well."(Article) In houses there was only one room, not several rooms like bedrooms and living rooms like the luxury we have today. "Rooms" were also not separated by walls, it was all just put next to each other which meant the kitchen, beds, tables, dishes, clothes line, and other house needs were all smashed together in one small room with no privacy. Toilets were shared in halls indoors and out side where people would dump them out into the streets. Since people lived so close to each other or shared houses with multiple families diseases rapidly expanded because the lack of medicine supplies and discoveries which resulted in several deaths.

How Everything Changed
In the Article "Living Conditions" by Ankur Poddar and the You Tube video on living conditions it tells us why people moved to the cities and what conditions they lived in and then how it changed. " As industrialization occurred, the middle class emerged."(Article) The middle class were skilled workers, managers, accountants, clerks, and others. These people had enough money to survive and EVEN enough money for extra for them to live comfortably. "Most moved away from the cities because they thought the "slum" was unhygienic and unpleasant. This led to the beginning of suburbs, or socially segregated neighborhoods" The middle class people began to see how people in the slums were treated and decided to make a difference. The governors forced laws in 1938 that created minimum wage that everyone must be paid at least a certain amount per hour. This law let people gain money and eventually led them to move on to middle class men, which moved people out the cities into neighborhoods which decreased diseases in the cities and created more rooms for people still in the slums. They also forced laws to end child labor and declared order that children must go to school and get an education. This stopped children from getting injured and endangered from working long shifts at the factories and put children in good health. In the 18th commandment sewers were then created in cities. For children, they constructed parks and playgrounds to let them play and explore their minds. "Slowly put surely slums were removed and the life quality improved for the people, laws of the progressive era ended the suffering of many people though out the Industrial Revolution." (Video)
